John TS #20-21

Date/Time: September 30th Saturday 2:00pm-4:30pm.

Tuttee: Ye-Won.

Location: Hecht House.

Topic/Skill: Reading and Speaking.

Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected my tutee’s understanding of constellations and the idea of stars as introduced in a book that we went over. I also corrected her understanding of descriptive words such as different hair colors and patterns with words such as "blond," "brunette," and "plaid." I also corrected her understanding of words such as "misty" and "lapping." The session was cut short unfortunately due to the tutee injuring herself with a chair.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: In my time tutoring Ye-won, I have seen such a great improvement in not only her but also myself. I am glad to say that even though my sessions as a part of the TEFL certification are over, I will continue to keep tutoring her into the future. I think that the tools I experimented with and the strategies I implemented have been effective and I have been given to chance to make them even better. I recommended the parent reduce the time of our sessions as she is moving through my prepared materials very quickly now as opposed to before when a single book would take several sessions. This is such a great achievement I do not think that she will struggle in the future in any aspect of reading and have gotten confirmation that she is now an avid reader outside of the class and our sessions. I really treasured this experience and it definitely will not be one I will forget for a long time. I appreciate Professor Kim for giving me this opportunity and am excited for the future. I wish anyone reading this luck on your own adventure with the certificate and wish you all a good day!
