Zola - Moussa TS#1
Today, I finally got Moussa to meet with me! We even scheduled the next meeting in advance, which I am very happy about.
Yet again, the tutoring guidelines questionnaire came in handy. They informed me that of the multitude of local languages in Cote d'Ivoire, Dioula is the one that was Moussa's native language, which I would not have been able to guess out otherwise. His other language being French was less surprising, but still good to definitively confirm.
I learned from talking to Moussa that what he wants most out of the tutoring sessions was to build his conversational vocabulary. This makes sense, and will not be too hard to accomplish, compared to if it was something like composition that he wanted to pursue. We just have to speak, mostly.
Interestingly, despite lacking extensive productive vocabulary, Moussa has more advanced receptive language skills than I expected. His responses to questions I asked were almost all appropriate and on topic. He is kind of the inverse of my other tutee, who has a wider vocabulary but seems to struggle with listening comprehension.
