John TS #6

Date/Time: July 3rd Monday 4:15pm-5:15pm.

Tuttee: Ye-Won.

Location: Hecht House.

Topic/Skill: Reading and Speaking.

Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected my tutee’s understanding of quotation modifiers such as "..." he yelped, "..." he cried, etc, and how these phrases change how the sentence should be read in mind. I also had the tutee act out certain idioms such as "he flew down the hill" (in reference to going down the hill very fast) to demonstrate what picture these idioms are supposed to paint in the mind of the reader.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that young students that are new to English do not understand the complex idioms found throughout many children's books so they have a hard time relating to the book and actually picturing in their mind what the characters are doing. It is important to show what these phrases mean so the student may enjoy reading in the future with the ability to "see" what the characters are doing, therefore understanding the jokes that are being made in these light-hearted books.
