John TS #5

Date/Time: July 2nd Sunday 3:20pm-4:20pm.

Tuttee: Ye-Won.

Location: Hecht House.

Topic/Skill: Reading and Speaking.

Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected my tutee’s reading of compound words such as "understands" and modeled how to infer the next step of a story by using already established story elements.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that students at a young age can struggle to understand a story even when the reading level is low, it was good that I asked the trustee questions about the story a lot to allow them to see that they can infer the plot of a story before they are done reading. I think that this session raised the student's reading comprehension skills and I can attribute this success to my meeting with another person tutoring the same student and how the other tutor gave me a lot of tips on what to do when instructing that specific student. I also learned the value of teaching in a way that the kid enjoys rather than crafting a lesson based on learning only. It is good to have a bit of fun when learning and I will try to use fun in my sessions more in the future.
