Topic/Skill: We briefly went over a journal entry he'd sent me last week and reviewed the specifics of definite and indefinite articles again. Then I had him do a fill-in-the-blank with the articles. Afterwards, we went over some vocabulary and read a short article about the idea of over-supervised parenting. I felt he would relate since he has a daughter. We went over some discussion questions and while I encouraged him to use some of the new vocab we'd discussed, I don't think I got that point across well. Finally, I asked him about a "critical incident" he'd experienced. Ironically, we both struggled to think of one at first. He described incidents that could occur between South Koreans and Southwest Asians over the presence of pork in many Korean dishes, since many cultures from that region don't consume pork.
What I learned: I shouldn't have crammed so much into the session today, as we didn't talk about the article as thoroughly as I would've liked. I also should've prefaced what type of article it was (opinion, not journalistic). Overall, I think it went ok.
