Topic/Skill: The main activity was supposed to involve watching a video together and answering questions on it/discussing it, but technical issues consistently get in the way and eat up time, if not derail the session entirely. Zoom never connects so I can't share my screen (we use Whatsapp now), and whenever I send audio or video over email, they don't load on his end. I'll try sending tutoring materials well in advance from now on, but emails frequently take forever to send, which creates a lot of issues. I tried to send an invite to my Google Doc with the materials but he never received it, or perhaps couldn't find it.
Nonetheless, we went over phrases he could use during the session (I don't understand. Is that similar to/different from ___?). We then did an activity where 1 person described a situation and the other had to explain what emotion they'd feel about it from a word bank (grateful, stressed, bored, etc.). We took turns a couple times and then went over vocab for the video. The video was about soccer so words included things like goal, team, player, soccer match, etc. I then had him do a matching activity with the words, and he did really well.
What I learned: I feel like things go decently well until technical issues occur. We had to end the session a bit early (8:50) because he couldn't get the video to work. It's frustrating, but I'm hoping to find a way around it eventually.
