Topic: Essay review & grammar lesson
Summary: In this session, she brought back her essay with the prompt that I created for her during our last session. The prompt was "Tell me about a time where you and a friend had a bad experience." I chose this because some of the idioms we had practiced the week before included some like "to see eye to eye" or "I can't stand -blank-" and I wanted her to get writing practice using these. This also gave me the opportunity to gauge her writing level and her understanding of how to piece information together etc. The writing was good, all of the questions were answered and there were only minor grammar issues. We worked through the essay together and I circled all the things that I would have changed or added to make it sound more fluent. She wants to work on speaking and reading for the next lesson so I will be working on activities for that.
Lessons Learned: YeonHee let me know that sometimes she feels embarrassed to show her work because she does not feel like it is good enough. I want to do more to help lower her affective filter and make it easier for her to let her thoughts come together. So I learned how big the impact an affective filter can have on someone.
