John TS #1
Date/Time: June 18th Sunday 2:00pm-3:00pm.
Tuttee: Ye-Won
Location: Hecht House.
Topic/Skill: Reading and Speaking.
Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected my tutee’s pronunciation of certain words such as would, around, again, etc. while reading a short story together. I also corrected her use of "a" before singular nouns such as "for a breakfast" and other instances of singular nouns while practicing conversation.
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that students have a hard time differentiating different noun types and it may be worth focusing on explaining that a bit more in the future, I also learned that the student was much better at making sentences when given freedom on the format but struggled to format answers to questions. Overall the student was attentive the entire session but seemed to be overwhelmed with trying to use new vocab in normal conversation. I will try to integrate new vocab slower into the future to keep the content comfortable for the student. I also want to note that the use of a simple dice game was very successful in giving the student a sense of accomplishment while going over vocab that is potentially new or unfamiliar for the student.
